Miss Haberdash Christmas shopping ....

You still have time to visit the TWNH (Thornbury Womens Neighbourhood House) Pop Up Shop (825 High St. Thornbury).

Through their Make Craft Your Business course TWNH provided me with encouragement and focus, 3 years on it's great to see how the course has flourished and expanded.

Thornbury is also the perfect spot for some vintage Christmas shopping, the manufactory, Department of History and Top hat Antiques are all within a few yards.

Being Thornbury the coffee is also really good, Lowlands and Umberto do it best.

Repeat after me, support your local High street this Christmas!

Miss Haberdash Christmas calling ....

For most of us Christmas thinking kicks in at the end of November. As I work for a Christmas shop I'm  researching, planning and buying all year long!

www.georgiapeachezwreathblog.blogspot.com.au/
I've been making wreaths and garlands since August and recently came across the blog of
Georgia Peachez (Virginia, USA) and she seems to have been doing the same.

She uses gorgeous vintage baubles (rarer than hen's teeth in Melbourne) and creates amazing, colourful  wreaths. Looks like a lifetime of collecting to me.

Miss Haberdash Australiana Gift Tags ....

Vintage Australiana is the theme for a new set of gift tags from Miss Haberdash.

I'm always crafting, and I think these tags are perfect for sending overseas, they make a gift extra special. The reverse image features To/From on a vintage airmail envelope. They're made from textured card and the thread is red/white cotton twine.

Purchase them online at www.rudolphs-christmasshop.com.au or visit the shop, Rudolph's Warehouse at 10, Gower Street, Preston.

Miss Haberdash illustration....

I discovered the very talented Macrina Busato whilst browsing online. Her illustrative colleges are very much my sort of thing. Take a look.

Her bio at Lilla Rogers Studio (an international online illustration agency) makes for an entertaining read. With Christmas around the corner I like the wrapping paper (top right) great idea.

Miss Haberdash at Scienceworks....

The Wallace and Gromit exhibition, is currently showing at Scienceworks in Spotswood. Who doesn't love the bumbling inventor and his faithful companion!

Best in show, the karaoke shower followed by the retro kitchen filled with my childhood memories. The 70s packaging looked a treat.

Thanks, emmajanefalconer.blogspot.com for the great packaging images.

Miss Haberdash eclectic....

I loved these images so much, I bought the magazine. Bullseye real living, the feature on Debi Treloar's fantastic home had me in a swoon.

My very own bathroom has much in common with Debi's, from the colour palette to the ephemera.  But that's where it ends because all this sweet girly stuff can seriously impact on a relationship, if you know what I mean!

Miss Haberdash teapots....

Many moons ago Miss Haberdash exhibited at New Designers a showcase for UK design graduates.  Now 25 years on it's still going strong and continues to spotlight art and design across all disciplines.

This year Mirjana Smith caught my eye. Whimsical teapots are assembled from items sought out at charity shops, boot sales and auctions. They're so very appealing, witty and full of character.

They remind me of the folk art assemblages made by Americans, Bill and Marcia Fink.  I first saw these in Elle Decor magazine, set against pristine white walls the work looked fantastic. I've tracked down these images, no easy feat.

Miss Haberdash in Ramsbottom....

Described recently by the Guardian newspaper as a semi-rural community (how we laughed). Ramsbottom is a market town not far from Bury and 16 miles North of Manchester.

 Postcard, Ramsbottom
Bridge Road the main thoroughfare is filled with mostly excellent shops from butchers to bakers etc. and at least 4 charity shops. Once upon a time this would be cause for celebration but no longer. The 80s or 90s hold no allure for Miss Haberdash and I'm afraid that's whats on offer. If you need a nostalgia fix Memories Antiques and Collectors Centre on Bridge Street will fill the void and they have some fantastic stuff in higgledy-piggledy fashion just as it should be. If only I could bring it all back.

Miss Haberdash nostalgia....

Beky of Pivotal Expressions put me on to Paper Runway a great, new magazine for all of us addicted to stationery- read it online.

Which got me thinking about my first magazine, Bunty, and the fun I had each week cutting out the paper doll & her amazing 1970s wardrobe. This was a regular feature on the back page.

My current favourite read is the UK magazine Selvedge a very expensive splurge. And the others, Vogue, Harpers Bazaar et al, well, I read them at the hairdressers!

Miss Haberdash adores Dior....

Like magic I found this wonderful Dior pattern in a South Melbourne op shop.

Pity the current train wreck that is John Galliano and think back to happier times and the Haute Couture Spring/Summer collection 2011, an absolute joy.

Miss Haberdash gets ready to party....

On Sunday Miss Haberdash will be glued to the box watching the Eurovision Song Contest .

Don't miss this extravaganza of kitsch, at over 3 hours it requires commitment and lots of party snacks. I've been browsing my Golden Circle Tropical Recipe Book for inspiration.

Go the UK, but my money is on the Irish, again!

My favourite things .....

So wrong, but Miss Haberdash couldn't fault the design of these postcards found in a Tijuana junk shop (she gets around).

My favourite things .....

Atishoo! it's hay-fever hell outside, but not so bad as I have this vintage Kangaroo & Joey handkerchief.
